Glock 43x High Capacity Magazine - Tyrant Designs is a manufacturer of high quality American CNC machined AR-15s and rifle upgrades and accessories. I was recently sent a pair of Glock 43X & 48 +4 magazine extensions. When it comes to magazine extensions, the deciding factor in whether or not they increase in quality depends on how well they work with the gun. In addition to this measurement, I will also look at how they change the wearing experience compared to traditional electric chargers.

My first impressions of the expansion of the magazine can be summed up in one word - precision. As a former machinist, I can see the quality CNC machining that goes into these parts. Although the magazine extensions appear to have sharp edges, they are cut at a comfortable angle, preventing any bumps or scratches when using or tightening them.

The anodization is very well made and resists general wear and tear, but it will come off if you apply enough force - not slight at all, but enough to make the helmet unwearable in normal use.

I'd give them a solid 9/10 for looks - looks great when paired with the original two-tone look of the Glock 43X and Glock 48. The barrels are flush with the grip dimensions and flare down in this configuration, adding to the overall height of the gun. I was expecting a slightly different look with the other colors, but the black and silver Tyrant impressed me.

The most frustrating aspect of magazine extensions for Glock pistols. With most pistol magazines, all you have to do is press the button under the magazine and slide the magazine. On Glock magazines, there are two small retaining tabs on the left and right sides of the magazine housing that extend into the base plate, requiring extra pressure on the bottom button to push the spring base up.

There are tools for this, but I ended up using a pair of channel locks to clamp the sides. Even with channel locks, considerable force was required to overcome the small locking ratio to remove the original baseplates.

Once the original stock plates are removed, installing the Tyrant Designs extensions is a no-brainer: simply slide the follower from the old spring into the extension spring, insert the spring and follower, and close with the magazine extension.

G43x Review: The Glock 43x Is All About The Upgrades

Tyrant has simplified disassembly with a small retaining device on the back of the extension that can be pressed down with firm pressure against a loose lid or other hard object - no channel locks required.

The magazine extension works as advertised. I loaded a few of them at level 14. It's not a problem with some experience, but you need a lot of pressure to get to the last level. With additional pressure, it can be placed in a closed manner, but it will not be free when under load.

I ran some tests to see normal magazine usage. It's hard to sit when you're fully loaded and in freefall. However, it appears to be loaded with a magazine and can still be unarmed. It's a good cuddle round magazine within a magazine. This seems to be a problem with Glock magazines, along with the added spring pressure causing the OEM Glock magazine to bulge near the bottom.

The edges of the magazine are large enough to hold the magazine in the weapon. This may be a problem for some, but I find it a bit inconvenient as I can't see myself ejecting fully loaded magazines. In normal use, the resources are used to properly feed and slide in the final stage. When the magazine was empty, the magazines fell freely as usual - perhaps faster than the magazines due to the extra weight of the extensions.

One thing I did notice was that the extensions on the pistol kept my hand from getting stuck between the magwell and magazine base plate when reloading. In general, I found it easier with interlored extensions with attached ones.

The biggest downside to the magazine expansion is in the privacy unit. When loaded in a Glock 48, it adds nearly 2 inches to the overall height of the gun. The height of the gun is the most difficult to hide the natural ovoid version of the wrist. When hidden under normal clothes, they make a visible print that seems ideal.

Right before TFBTV gave us a disdainful assessment of the gun's value effectiveness. The efficiency rating works as follows:

Each square is assigned circles for a square meter and This doesn't account for the overall length of the gun, but it does show how effective it is. A thin/short framed and higher powered very frustrated water will work well here. Higher scores are better.

The Glock 48 typically has a .79 efficiency rating with a 10-round magazine. When the magazine is extended, the efficiency rating drops to 0.76, which is not too low. This compares the Glock 48 to the similar SIG Sauer P228, Glock 26 Gen 3, and SIG Sauer P320 cartridges. It is the height that contributes the most to the drop in grade.

Subjectively, if I were to carry these magazine extensions, I think I would carry them in a magazine pocket or pouch, as this would reduce the negative effect they have on concealability when loaded into the gun. Of course, you can beat this performance score by adding lots of magazine extensions, but you end up defeating the purpose of a concealed carry gun to fool the system.

I think the Tyrant Designs +4 Magazine Extensions are a great addition to a Glock 43X or Glock 48 as a daily carry magazine extension or backup extension. They are light and offer a little more space for those with very large hands.

I wouldn't carry these as part of an EDC kit, but I will carry them around and keep them at home. The way I carry it, the Glock 48 can't possibly have more of a grip than it used to. It's always a good idea to have high capacity magazines and I think the best way to carry them around is to have them at home, in your car or on your person as extra magazines.
